Along with the little metal awnings we added, our new back steps, and even those outdoor showers (covered by an extra long metal awning for privacy). Ok and also cute-factor .
Let alone the structural changes we made to the back of the house (like adding those second floor bathrooms off of the main bedroom, which you can read more about here), it’s just amazing .

My old home has an ancient retractable metal awning over the west-facing living room windows. It’s unbearably ugly but oh man, does it ever work to keep temps down in the summer. I unroll it every April and put it back in mid-September. Also, I can’t underplay what a heroic role the metal awnings and the secondhand diamond doors play in the whole backyard makeover scheme, so let’s dive right into the specifics of what we did back here.Mar 17, 2019 - Explore Small Modern Farmhouse's board "Modern Farmhouse - Awning", followed by 167 people on Pinterest. Oh, love the daybed. have several pinned on Pinterest! Awesome job. And Matt and Kristin’s house crash is where I fell in LOVE (i cannot capitalize that enough) with the quirky bird painting in the dining area!!! I’ve been . Ok, so we had to add trim to polish off our recently tongue-and-groove planked ceiliing.Originally I was just going to toss out a quick mention like: “We installed trim to bridge the gaps around the ceiling and the new triangle .This house was ROUGH when we bought it, and we had so much fun (and learned SO MUCH STUFF) throughout the process of putting it back together (you can read all the posts about the renovation here). And remember you can .

We saw this one on Amazon for 9 (so much cheaper than the others!) with a really promising 4.5 star rating. I excitedly read about how much people loved it. but then I discovered the one star reviews from people who had theirs for more than one season. Each doorway still had the metal frame around it that was a bit of an eyesore (and the bottom piece was a major tripping hazard). . More posts from Young House Love. Filed Under: Home Improvement, Our Third House . but it’s definitely a lot less bright than all of the other rooms since it essentially has a giant awning off of the back of .
Then we snapped out the metal cover that concealed all of the wiring in the back of the fluorescent fixture. We were very relieved to see that the wiring came through the center of the fixture. . Enter this awning that we had shipped all the way from the UK, stage left. Yes, that’s right. And I’m aware that it sounds like something Ariana Grande or Lady Gaga would do, but I fell in love with some inspo pics with a sloped gracious awning like this on a white brick house and couldn’t find any ready-made options that were even remotely similar except for this . We decided that laying down some thick 3/4″ plywood (which is the same depth as our hardwoods) would be a nice way to give that particle-board subflooring a more finished look – especially since we could stain it to match the floors so well (we used one coat of Dark Walnut followed by three coats of SafeCoat Acrylacq to seal them). For the last few weeks you guys have been requesting a House Crashing post with photos of the other six Homearama homes in the show, so we slipped through and snapped a bunch of pictures of each house, just like we did for this Homearama House Crash from 2012 (that’s your warning that this post is extremely image-heavy). Everyone who has attended the .
The outdoor sofa and vintage black metal chairs seen above also made the move to Florida and now both live on our upstairs deck. That space is in a bit of a “transition” since we stole the dining table to try out in our twice-as-big pool area (if you missed my IG stories about pushing that fence back about 20′, we’re planning a big post . Me + a picture of our kitchen + photoshop = this post. Back in December when we bought our kitchen stools (from a school supply store for a pop) we mentioned we were entertaining a number of ways to tweak them down the line (painting them, upholstering/staining the seat, etc) but just couldn’t shake the feeling that we should live with them a while first – just .

June 8, 2010 at 9:55 am. That is seriously fabulous! I’m totally inspired to make one for the horrible light fixture that resides at the top of my staircase. Beautiful! We loved how both of those fireplaces turned out – but going into this third fireplace project, we wanted something more modern for our more modern house (you can see the outside of it here and here). In general, we’ve been more drawn towards clean lines and a more modern silhouette for most things lately (maybe it’s the casual beach house vibe, or over .
Our front porch was cracked and saggy due to a large tree falling on it waaaay before we moved in, and it also had an ugly aluminum awning over it. We re-sided our house last summer and then realized that it made our porch .

And actually, at one point we did have that same headboard attached to a different bed entirely: the Ikea Edland canopy bed that we chopped the posts off of years ago (who remembers Ed the Bed?). But we swapped . But apart from a few shots here and there on social media, it’s been a while since our last big update.Since then, we’ve gotten a whole lot of major stuff check off outside, like a new roof (no more leaking into the house!) . But back to the dining room table hunt. Long story short long, that room is just a lot more accommodating when it comes to a huge table, but to keep it from feeling too formal and wood-riddled I always pictured a nice round table (which just seems softer and somehow a bit more “friendly” than an angular rectangle). I also have a craving for green leather (or faux . A notable example is the outdoor dining area in our last house, where I’m certain we spent far more hours blowing leaves and pressure washing the cushions than we ever did actually dining. The chairs had fabric cushions that didn’t dry quickly, so having a meal out there took more planning & prep than we’d like, so it just never became a regular habit.
Note: You can also view this video on YouTube.. Now, of course, the main drawback to solar lights is that they rely on sunshine, so they don’t glow as long on cloudy days – but generally they have surprised us by shining longer than we’d think they should on especially gloomy days (they might come on at dusk and shine until 11 or 12 instead of 3 or 4 like they do .I genuinely love my metal awnings! I'm light sensitive and even with the awnings it gets very bright in my house, so I've never had an issue there. They're loud when it rains, but that's a bonus for me, and they do keep the temperature in the house a little more stable so my poor furnace/AC doesn't have to work quite as hard (I don't want to . Oh and that’s my magnolia wreath that I shared with you guys a few weeks back on Instagram.I went with the girls to a vineyard called Rassawek that’s about an hour west of Richmond where they put on an annual wine & wreath thing (we house crashed their cabins a couple of years ago). It took about an hour to make 20 little leaf bunches with wire (while .Mar 17, 2019 - Explore Small Modern Farmhouse's board "Modern Farmhouse - Awning" on Pinterest. Update: A few savvy commenters recommended that we test for lead just to be sure it wouldn’t leech into our food if it was randomly present in the metal. We just used one of those Lead Test Sticks from Home Depoton to test the seams, the inside, the outside, the bottom, and even the holes that we drill and it was negative.
Minutes 12-15: Screw Shade To Window Frame. You can see from this photo that we secured the fabric to the piece of wood. I used a staple gun to attach it so it would be firmly held in place once the wood piece was screwed directly into the top of the window (just like you’d hang an inside mount shade). Favorite project ever! Okay, not really at all. (I just couldn’t help trying to match Sherry’s enthusiasm from yesterday’s post), but this is a nice simple way to update basic garage doors so they look a little more stately.Back when we had our house’s exterior patched & painted right after moving in, we opted not to get the garage doors painted since we knew it was a task . We love how the color relates to the dark teal built-ins in the dining room without being too matchy-matchy, and even ties into the small pops of color on the open shelves.Although I’m sort of tempted to completely white-ify the stuff on the shelves and the counters (fewer pops of yellow and blue) so the stools can really be the star – just because a lot of the kitchen photos .
